A tribute to the centennial birthday boy, Nat King Cole (from Spring Song Showcase)

We just finished our Spring Song Showcase at the Beverly Hills Public Library, Los Angeles, on March 27, 2019 and at 92Y, New York, on April 4, 2019. The presentation included Frank Sinatra singing about his favorite spring flower, “American Beauty Rose”, in two versions. Followed by “You Must Believe In Spring”, written by Michel Legrand, who left us in January. Also on tap was Bobby Darin singing a spring song about recalled last love, “I’ll Remember April”. There are so many more beautiful songs inspired by the soft glory of Spring. So much music, so little time.

Though the Jukebox mainly featured songs inspired by our most beautiful season. Jim moved, just for a bit, to summer. “That Sunday That Summer”, by Nat King Cole was highlighted on the occasion of his 100 birthday celebration.

Here is a video of the talk about the centennial birthday boy, followed by a video of Nat King Cole singing with the Cliff Adams Singers on the BBC special “An Evening With Nat King Cole”, from 1963.
